About Dr. Ronald Alvarez

4.5 out of 5 (81 ratings)

Dr. Ronald Alvarez is a board-certified otolaryngologist with more than 30 years of experience..

He says he was about 4 years old, growing up in New York City when he knew he wanted to be a doctor. His family had a great primary care doctor who took very good care of them and served as a role model to Dr. Alvarez as he got older.

Dr. Alvarez says as the population gets bigger, he sees a lot more sleep apnea than he used to — people who can stop breathing 80-90 times an hour sometimes. It impacts other medical problems like blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Getting treatment helps improve their overall quality of life.

Dr. Alvarez says he’s also seeing very good success with in-office sinus surgery. Patients go back to work the next day.

But Dr. Alvarez says he gets the most hugs from doing stapedectomies than just about any other procedure. Stapedectomy is a surgery to remove one of the little bones in the inner ear when it doesn't vibrate the way it should and replace it with an artificial one, restoring normal hearing.

When he’s not working, Dr. Alvarez enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, cycling and mountain biking, going to movies and just spending time together.
